Most of us know that we need 8 hours of sleep everyday. We’ve probably read that in hundreds of health articles in magazines or perhaps we’ve heard it thousands of times from our doctors, but most of us still get less than 8 hours of sleep, especially on weekdays. Perhaps we just don’t really understand what the negative effects of poor sleep are. Here are what several researchers have discovered in their studies:

-          Lack of sleep makes us feel tired and fatigued all day long. This, of course, will prevent us from fulfilling out true potential, resulting in decreased productivity at work and lower grades at school.

-          People who sleep poorly are often in bad moods. They also find it harder to contain their emotions and control their temper. This could lead to relationship problems with friends, colleagues and even spouses.

-          A new study has shown that people who suffer from sleep deprivation has a higher risk of heart problems. This is because sleep deprivation may lead to inflammation, and in the long run, this may result in high blood pressure, stroke and heart failures.

It’s obvious that sleep is a very important part of our lives. So don’t skimp on your sleeping time. Make sure you’re getting enough quality sleep each night.

Everybody knows how important sleep is. The problem is, because we’re living in such a fast paced and busy world, not everyone has the luxury of 8 hours of sleep every night. And even those who do often sleep less than that because of difficulties falling asleep. Surveys conducted by the National Sleep Foundation showed that 3 out of 4 American adults have problems falling asleep. Since lack of sleep can cause various health problems, it would be beneficial to find ways to fight sleeping problems. These tips should prove to be very helpful for that matter.

  1. Avoid caffeine. Coffee, tea and soda contain caffeine so it’s best to avoid them late in the day.
  2. Don’t put a TV, computer or any work related thing in your bedroom. Your bedroom should be used for one purpose only and that’s sleeping.
  3. Listen to slow and relaxing music. Believe it or not, this will help slow down the pace of your body and mind and help you fall asleep.
  4. Take sleep aids. Although many types of sleeping pills are now available without prescription, it’s important to consider their side effects. Therefore, it’s best to take natural sleeping aids like herbal medicines for example.

So if you find yourself lying in bed at 2 am with your eyes wide open, try the tips above.
